Breaking through to a new level
Triple Crown winner avoiding the big slump
Thrills the crowds with his newfound homerun muscles
And distant Fenway bullpen reaching power
Makes the polacks proud
And a small East Coast city Boston
One city north of my dear hometown
Seem bigger than before

The best magic season ever made or seen by a working Joe
Since baseball Teddy was hot and around
And hit around 401
If my encyclopedia memory properly recalls
While that strange song takes over the radio for a pure number one
Ancient and modern fires, both are burning
And heavy competition
Italian home run boy goes down
With a black eye to show
Replaced by a hawk
While the mighty Captain continues on
In quest of the Impossible Dream
And the number one spot in the league rank

But do they really know
Can they really do
What the night voyager does
What is the real dream
And is there a nightmare to go with it?
The man who knows
Needs no baseball bat
To show what he's got
